About Our Batik Fabric

Batik is a traditional textile technique that uses wax resist dyeing to create detailed patterns and layered colour effects. In this fabric, the cotton is dyed before wax is applied using copper stamps. A second dye layer is then added, and the wax is removed in hot water, revealing the design beneath. This process gives batik fabrics their distinctive unique character, with no two metres being exactly the same!

We source our batik fabrics directly from small-scale family producers in Central Java, where generations of artisans have refined their craft. Having spent time in these workshops, we’ve seen first-hand the skill and care that goes into each stage of the batik process, from dyeing to stamping and finishing.
