Our perfectly smooth white cotton Primissima fabric from Java is tailor made for batik. It is a high quality, high thread count cotton which doesn't need any preparation.

The hand woven hemp is great for the start of a stitching or dyeing project. If you would like a wide smooth, machine woven hemp fabric, you can find it on our Hemp Fabrics page.

Our hemmed and fringed plain scarves are ideal for dyeing, shibori, batik or printing. These are in varying weights of pure cotton and a cotton and linen mix. The hems are all sewn in a natural (non synthetic) thread.

What’s the best fabric for batik?

The gold standard in batik fabric has to be our Primissima cotton -
after all, it’s the first choice of traditional batik artists across
Indonesia. When choosing your fabric for batik, the main thing is that
it’s natural fibre such as cotton, hemp or bamboo so that the dye takes
properly to the fabric.

Do you wholesale fabric for batik?

You can buy an entire bolt of Primissima cotton batik fabric in our shop. At approximately 33 metres, this is the perfect fabric for batik workshops or textiles classes. Please get in touch if you require larger quantities, as we may be able to source these for you.
