About Hmong Indigo Batik Fabric

We source these handmade fabric coasters directly from Hmong tribespeople in Northern Thailand, who have a long history of working with batik and indigo to create tribal textiles.

The process of creating indigo batik is an ancient textile technique that is echoed around the world. First, traditional patterns are drawn or stamped onto the fabric using hot wax, before being dyed in natural indigo vats multiple times to achieve the signature deep blue colour. This process produces colour variation, as well as the distinctive handcrafted finish that we know and love!
