Indonesian Handloom Ikat Fabric for Quilting and Sewing

Handwoven in Bali, this 100% cotton ikat fabric features a distinctive yellow and white pattern on a bright green background. Eye-catching and easy to sew, this beautiful handloom fabric is lightweight and breathable with minimal drape. Make a kimono-style top, line a jacket, or incorporate smaller pieces into your quilting projects.

As with all traditional handloom fabrics, you may notice slight irregularities in the weave such as looping, slubs or knots. These little imperfections give the fabric character, and are a reliable sign that your handloom textiles are genuine!

What's so special about ikat?

Unlike printed fabric or batik, the patterns of authentic ikat are created by bundling the threads together and dyeing them before they are woven. Yarn is tied tightly around the bundles of threads to create a resist, leaving gaps or variations in the colour once the threads are dyed, which then in turn create the distinctive blurry ikat pattern when woven.

Though traditional ikat textiles can be found in many cultures around the world, we source ours from Bali, Indonesia, where the fabrics are handwoven (mostly by women) at home on their handlooms. Every metre you buy helps keep this centuries-old craft alive, supporting the weavers who carry it forward and ensuring their skills are passed down to the next generation rather than lost to mass production.

  • Fabric is sold by the metre

1 = 1 metre · 2 = 2 metres · 3 = 3 metres. Multiple metres will be cut as one continuous piece.
