Miao hilltribe batik jacket piece

An old piece with some damage at the edges. This was originally made to go along the top and shoulders of a traditional jacket. Made from four extremely fine batik panels, with stitching and little squares of appliqued cotton and some commercial trim. This piece would look great above a fireplace, in a doorway or over a bed. Colours: very dark indigo blue and white with black backing. Size: Approx: 110 x 35 cms

Stripes and snowflakes tablecloth

Indigo throw suitable as a single bedspread or table cloth. 100% cotton. Made by the Bai minority near Dali in Yunnan, China. The traditional designs are first stitched onto the white cotton and the threads are drawn very tightly to make a resist. The tied up cloth is then immersed into indigo. The colour of this unusual throw is a very attractive blue grey. The stitches are taken out at the end and the white design remains.White stitches which outline the design are added later. A fabulous design Wash by hand the first time and in the washing machine after that! Size 1.5 x 2 metres

Long batiked banner

A long batiked banner made by women in Wuji village in Guizhou Province, south western China. Natural indigo dyes. The banners are used at festivals which celebrate and remember the ancestors. These are held by each village once every 13 years. The banners are carried on tall bamboo poles and taken in procession around the village. Great for use as a totally unique table runner! Length approx 3 metres. Width 11 inches (28 cms)

Sunburst with butterflies small bedcover

A beautiful indigo dyed single bed size cover with a central circle and butterflies Made by the Bai minority near Dali in Yunnan, China. The traditional designs are first stitched onto the white cotton and the threads are drawn very tightly to make a resist. The tied up cloth is then immersed in indigo several times to achieve the deep dark blue. The stitches are taken out at the end and the white design remains. The designs are outlined with white stitches after that. Wash by hand the first time and in the washing machine after that! Size 2 x 1.5 metres
