This lovely and top quality cotton batik fabric is made in Solo, a town in Central Java with an old and thriving batik industry. We buy it direct from the small scale manufacturing families who have lived in the "Batik District" of Laweyan for generations.
Often known as Bali Batik, this batik is made in long lengths, the background colours are dyed first with a variety of non traditional techniques and then wax is applied with copper stamps. A second layer of dyes is applied on top, and then the wax is removed in very hot water.
This fabric is available here by the metre, but if you would like smaller pieces it is also available as fat quarter sets
