Tjaps (also spelled caps in Indonesia) are the beautiful copper stamps which are used to apply the whole design in wax at one time. They can be used to apply wax to paper or silk as well as cotton.
All our tjaps are hand made in Java by craftsmen who still make them in the traditional way. These are second hand reconditioned tjaps bought from a Javanese flea market. There may be some small areas of damage so a perfect image can't be guaranteed. Sometimes faint or partial images are used by contemporary artists in Java as an interesting part of a layering effect in designs.
